Damaris Lane of Valdosta, Georgia, had been blessed to serve the people of Honduras through The Lizzie Project for several trips.  However, 2017 was different.  The prior year, her husband Jim, had passed away, bringing sadness and many adjustments in her life.

An avid seamstress, Damaris began filling the long hours by sewing little dresses to take to Honduran girls on the 2017 mission trip.  From left-over projects for her granddaughter, Damaris had many colorful scraps of material.  Sewing the dresses seemed to take on a healing purpose.

“I was heart-broken that many children in the villages don’t have adequate clothes.  Clothing is often torn or has holes in them.  My heart was deeply touched to make a difference for those little girls,” Damaris said.

Several women’s groups in Georgia are involved with sewing “pillowcase dresses” for the children of Honduras throughout the year.  In 2018, sewing shorts for little boys also began.
